Cedar Cove

Cedar Cove was Hallmark Channel's first original scripted series, based on Debbie Macomber's book series of the same name.

Although the story is set in Port Orchard, Washington—Debbie Macomber's own summer residence—the series was actually filmed in Deep Cove, North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Macomber said she tried to get the series filmed in Washington state, but explained that despite tax incentives, the US location lacked the film infrastructure that Canada offered.

The role of Seth Gunderson was played by Greyston Holt in the pilot episode before Corey Sevier took over the part for the regular series.

The character Cecilia Rendall was portrayed by Katharine Isabelle in the pilot before Emily Tennant assumed the role.

The character John Bowman was played by Charlie Carrick before Giles Panton took over the role starting in season three.

Sue Tenney, an executive producer and writer known for 7th Heaven, took over as showrunner beginning with the announcement of the second season's premiere date.

In the original book series, Grace's husband commits suicide due to trauma from the Vietnam War, but the network considered this storyline too heavy, so in the TV adaptation he instead announces he is divorcing her.

Cedar Cove received 'generally favorable' reviews with a Metacritic aggregate score of 62 out of 100 based on ten critics, and its ratings made Hallmark the top cable channel for its Saturday time slot.
