The launch of Cuckoo became BBC Three's most-watched comedy launch, beating the record previously set by Bad Education just a month earlier.

Andy Samberg did not return for the second series due to his busy schedule, and Taylor Lautner replaced him as Cuckoo's long-lost lovechild Dale.

The character Rachel was recast for series 2, with Tamla Kari being replaced by Esther Smith.

Although the show is set in Lichfield, Staffordshire, it is actually filmed around 100 miles south in the town of Amersham and the village of Chesham Bois in Buckinghamshire, with additional exterior scenes shot in Chesham, Chartridge, Farnham, and Thame.

Taylor Lautner's character Dale does not appear in Series 5, and the show never explains his absence beyond Rachel telling Sid that 'Dale is gone'.

In May 2015, NBC announced it was developing a US pilot adaptation of Cuckoo starring Michael Chiklis, Cheryl Hines, and Flula Borg, written by original UK creators Robin French and Kieron Quirke alongside Simpsons veteran Tim Long; the project was ultimately not picked up as a series.

Greg Davies received a BAFTA nomination for Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme, and the show was also nominated for Best New Comedy Programme at the British Comedy Awards, with Davies nominated for Best TV Comedy Actor.

All five series of Cuckoo were removed from Netflix in April 2023 after having premiered there in stages between 2016 and 2019.
