Once Upon a Time... The Americas

The series is the fourth installment in Albert Barillé's Once Upon a Time... franchise, following the format established by previous entries such as Once Upon a Time... Man.

As an educational series aimed at children, it recounts the history of the Americas through the various peoples who settled there (Inuits, Aztecs, Incas, etc.) and major historical events like the conquest of the West and the American War of Independence.

Although Procidis, the production company, is French, the series was co-produced with broadcasters from many countries, including Spain, Germany, Italy, Canada, Switzerland, Finland, and Belgium, and animation work also involved Japan, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Michel Legrand composed the soundtrack and the theme song, which was performed by Lisbet Guldbaek (credited as Lisbet Gillan) with lyrics written by Albert Barillé himself.

Part of the musical score was reused from the earlier series Once Upon a Time... Space, and some of the same tracks were also used in Once Upon a Time... Life.

Character design for the series was created by Jean Barbaud, continuing his work from previous entries in the franchise.

The series first aired in France on Canal+ starting 28 October 1991, later moving to France 3, and it was also broadcast in the United States on the History Channel between January and March 1995.
