Origins

Life on Top is an American softcore drama series based on the novel of the same name by Clara Darling, and it aired on Cinemax from October 3, 2009, to April 1, 2011, over 26 episodes.

Filming

Although the series is heavily implied to be set in Manhattan, principal photography actually took place in Bucharest, Romania, over five weeks with the help of local production company Castel Film Romania.

Casting

The vast majority of the supporting cast credited in the end credits is Romanian, reflecting the show's actual Bucharest filming location.

Reception

In 2015, Life on Top was featured in Under the Gun Theater's comedy show Porn Minus Porn, in which actors parody softcore porn productions by cold reading their scripts live.
