Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane

The show was initially developed under the title 'Zoe Bean' before being retitled 'Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane' and later shortened to simply 'Zoe...' (pronounced on-air as 'Zoe Dot Dot Dot') during its second season.

The characters attend a fictional school called Fielding-Mellish Prep, a name taken from Woody Allen's character in the movie 'Bananas'.

Jeremy Renner originally played the role of Jack in the original pilot episode but was replaced by Michael Rosenbaum before the series went to series.

Scott Foley appeared in the pilot with the intention of starring as Zoe's love interest, but once the show was picked up he had already committed to 'Felicity', so he only returned as a guest star.

The first season featured guest appearances by Sara Rue as a wheelchair-using bully, Will Friedle as a stoner who dated Zoe, and Jacinda Barrett as a girl interested in both Duncan and Jack.

For the second season the show was heavily retooled: the characters became college students, Mary Page Keller's character as Zoe's mother was dropped, and Omar Gooding joined the cast as new friend Doug Anderson.

After the series was cancelled, Michael Rosenbaum expressed disappointment that the network had removed his character's name from the show's title for the second season.

The first season's theme song was 'Charmed' performed by My Friend Steve.
