Miss Guided

The series was originally titled Miss/Guided, written by Caroline Williams, and developed by Katalyst Films, Ashton Kutcher's production company at 20th Century Fox Television. ABC ordered the pilot in August 2006, and the title was later changed to Miss Guided (losing the slash) before its first airing.

After the pilot was shot, ABC ordered the show to series on May 13, 2007, adding six more episodes just two days before its upfront presentation, though it wasn't given a formal timeslot and was held for a mid-season debut.

Executive producer Ashton Kutcher guest starred in the second episode as substitute teacher Beaux, appearing alongside Zoey 101 star Jamie Lynn Spears and Rumer Willis, who played a rebellious student.

Jonathan Sadowski was originally cast as Gary, the school's male nurse, but was let go from the role after Chris Parnell joined the cast and the character of Bruce was changed from a rival guidance counselor to Vice Principal.

The show completed its entire original seven-episode order before production was halted by the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike.

The production went through multiple showrunners: original showrunner Gabrielle Allen left in June 2007, was briefly replaced by Rob Thomas who departed after only a few weeks due to creative differences over the show's tone, and was ultimately replaced by Mark Hudis, former showrunner of That '70s Show.

The series received a score of 63 out of 100 on Metacritic, indicating 'generally favorable reviews,' with Entertainment Weekly praising it as 'wonderfully absurd' while Variety gave a more negative assessment, calling it warmed-over material despite Judy Greer's performance.
