Lipstick Jungle

The series was based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Candace Bushnell, who also served as executive producer alongside showrunner Oliver Goldstick.

The original cast included Gina Gershon as Wendy Healy and Melissa George as Nico Reilly, but they were replaced along with several other cast members before the show aired.

Melissa George was personally cast by Candace Bushnell, but left the project in early 2007 after being offered a role in the HBO series In Treatment; she was replaced by Kim Raver.

Prior to premiering, the show underwent major behind-the-scenes changes, with executive producers DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler, writers Rand Ravich and Jill Gordon, and director Nigel Cole all being fired.

The first season directly overlapped in theme and indirectly competed with ABC's Cashmere Mafia, a show created by Darren Star, Candace Bushnell's former creative partner from Sex and the City.

Due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, only seven episodes were produced for the first season instead of the planned 13.

After the show's future was left uncertain in early 2009, NBC announced it would get the 'Friday Night Lights treatment,' suggesting a possible third season airing on another NBC Universal network before replaying on NBC, but the series was ultimately canceled in March 2009.

In February 2009, while the show's fate was still undecided, Lindsay Price was cast in the pilot for ABC's Eastwick; had Lipstick Jungle been renewed for a third season, she would have left Eastwick to honor her contract with Lipstick Jungle.
