Voyagers!

The Washington Post's Tom Shales praised Voyagers! as a live-action version of the Mr. Peabody and Sherman cartoons from the old Bullwinkle show, calling it largely a joy ride from start to finish.

Voyagers! was scheduled opposite the top-rated 60 Minutes and averaged a 17 share, and was expected to be renewed for a second season.

NBC cancelled Voyagers! believing controversies around 60 Minutes might make it vulnerable to a competing news program, replacing it with the news magazine Monitor, which only averaged a 7 share.

David Letterman mocked NBC's cancellation of the series with a Late Night sketch titled 'They Took My Show Away,' a parody of an after-school special featuring a host comforting a boy who was a Voyagers! fan.

In 1985, following the death of series star Jon-Erik Hexum during production of his subsequent show Cover Up, Universal re-edited several episodes into a television film called Voyager from the Unknown, combining the pilot episode with 'Voyagers of the Titanic.'

The 1985 TV movie Voyager from the Unknown added new video special effects, voice-over dubbing replacing some of Hexum and Peluce's dialogue, and new footage introducing a supercomputer that directs Voyager missions.

The re-edited telefilm's opening narration was accompanied by painted illustrations by artist Jerry Gebr depicting Bogg receiving his guidebook on 'Planet Voyager.'

The 1985 VHS release of the re-edited telefilm was the only official home video release of Voyagers! in the US until Universal issued all 20 episodes on DVD in 2007.
