Love Child

The series is based on the real-life forced adoption practices in Australia, for which former Prime Minister Julia Gillard offered a national apology to those affected in 2013.

Love Child was announced by the Nine Network in April 2013 as an eight-part drama series produced by Playmaker Media, the same team behind House Husbands.

The series was created by Sarah Lambert, who also served as a producer and one of the writers alongside Tim Pye, Kym Goldsworthy, Cathryn Strickland, Giula Sandler, Matt Ford, Liz Doran and Vanessa Alexander.

Jessica Marais, Jonathan LaPaglia and Mandy McElhinney were announced as the main cast in April 2013, while the rest of the cast, including Ryan Corr, Ella Scott Lynch, Sophie Hensser, Harriet Dyer, Gracie Gilbert and Miranda Tapsell, was revealed only in February 2014.

Miranda Tapsell won a Logie Award for her performance as Martha Tennant, marking her debut television role.

Ryan Corr, a main cast member in season one, did not return as a regular in season two but appeared as a guest.

Jonathan LaPaglia did not return for the fourth season, while new cast members Dan Hamill, Matt Day, Danielle Catanzariti, Darcie Irwin-Simpson, Sophia Forrest and singer Ronan Keating joined the show.

After being renewed for a second, third and fourth series between 2014 and 2016, Love Child was ultimately cancelled in December 2017 after four seasons.
