Bad Education broke BBC Three's record for the highest viewing figures for a first episode of a comedy at its August 2012 launch, a record previously held by Horne & Corden and later surpassed by Cuckoo.

As part of BBC Three's plan to premiere scripted comedies online first, the second series debuted on BBC iPlayer on 27 August 2013, a week before its television broadcast, and the first episode received 1.5 million requests before airing on TV.

An American adaptation called An American Education was ordered as a pilot by ABC, with Jack Whitehall reprising his role as Alfie Wickers, and began filming in Los Angeles in January 2014, but ABC ultimately passed on the pilot in May 2014.

Jack Whitehall confirmed in late 2014 that the original series would not receive a fourth series, though the show returned years later with a new writing team and without Whitehall in the lead role.

The 2015 film adaptation, The Bad Education Movie, was filmed in Cornwall and saw Alfie Wickers and Class K travel there, with most of the main television cast reprising their roles.

The 2022 tenth-anniversary reunion special focused on former pupils Stephen Carmichael and Mitchell Harper becoming teachers, setting up the premise for the revived series without Jack Whitehall.

Layton Williams said he was consulted in the creation of the new character Usma in the revived series, who is partially based on how his own character Stephen was portrayed in the original show.

Bianca Del Rio made a guest appearance in the second episode of the revived series.
