Origins

The series was known as Project Gary during tapings before it premiered on television under its final title.

Casting

The role of Louise Brooks was recast after the pilot episode; Laura Marano played her first, then Kathryn Newton took over from episode 2 onward.

After an initial order of 13 episodes, CBS ordered seven more episodes on November 14, 2008, giving the first season a full 20-episode pickup.

On May 10, 2009, series creator Ed Yeager and fellow executive producer Ric Swartzlander left the show over creative differences after the first season.
