Blandings is a British comedy television series adapted by Guy Andrews from the Blandings Castle stories of P.G. Wodehouse. It was first broadcast on BBC One from 13 January 2013, and stars Timothy Spall, Jennifer Saunders and Mark Williams. The series was produced with the partial financial assistance of the European Regional Development Fund.

Origins

Blandings was the first television adaptation of P. G. Wodehouse's Blandings Castle stories since the BBC's film of the novel Heavy Weather in 1995.

Filming

The series was filmed on location at Crom Castle near Newtownbutler in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, with additional scenes shot at Florence Court, a National Trust property near Kinawley.

Trivia

The show received partial financial assistance from the European Regional Development Fund.

Casting

Mark Williams played the butler Beach in the first series, but was replaced by Tim Vine for the second series, as announced on 24 October 2013.

Reception

The Daily Telegraph's Ben Lawrence gave the first episode two out of five stars, criticizing the adaptation for lacking Wodehouse's authorial voice, which left the cast feeling 'all at sea'.

Trivia

Empress, the Middle White sow who played Lord Emsworth's prize pig, died of what vets believed was a massive heart attack shortly before the final episode aired, prompting tributes and leaving star Timothy Spall 'very upset'.
