The series was originally produced under the working title 'Ben 10: Hero Generation' before being renamed to Ben 10: Alien Force.

Ben 10: Alien Force was created by the team Man of Action, a collective of four writers: Duncan Rouleau, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, and Steven T. Seagle.

The show intentionally darkened its tone compared to the original Ben 10 series, maturing the characters, introducing more complex plots, and featuring more character deaths and less humor.

The Omnitrix device was redesigned for the sequel, becoming smaller and sleeker with a watch-like shape, a black and green face plate, and a 3D holographic display replacing the original's flat silhouette icons.

The show revealed a new backstory for the Omnitrix: beyond fostering understanding between species, it was actually created by Azmuth to preserve the DNA of all living beings in the Milky Way and restore them if they became extinct.

In the live-action sequel film Ben 10: Alien Swarm, Lee Majors was offered the chance to reprise his role as Grandpa Max but turned it down, so the part was recast with Barry Corbin.

Ben 10: Alien Force was nominated for four Emmy Awards and won one, for Outstanding Sound Mixing – Live Action and Animation.

The character Albedo is a rival Galvan who built his own inferior Omnitrix synchronized to Ben's; because Ben's device was the default, using it transforms Albedo into a clone of Ben rather than letting him choose his own forms, and he even develops a craving for chili fries like Ben.
