Nero Wolfe

This 2012 Italian TV series transplants Rex Stout's famous American detective Nero Wolfe from New York to Rome in 1959, imagining him in a sort of voluntary exile after disputes with the FBI.

Actor Francesco Pannofino plays Nero Wolfe, portraying him as a corpulent, irascible and misogynistic genius detective obsessed with fine food and rare orchids.

Pietro Sermonti plays Archie Goodwin, Wolfe's charming assistant who does the legwork investigating while Wolfe rarely leaves his house.

Andy Luotto plays Nanni Laghi, a renowned chef from the Amalfi Coast who becomes Wolfe's personal cook after moving to Rome due to personal problems, much like Wolfe himself.

The story gives Wolfe a backstory of having worked in Rome for American intelligence during World War II, explaining his familiarity with the city.

The series contains a historical inaccuracy: although set in Rome in 1959, Archie Goodwin's car is an MG B Spider, a model that was only introduced in 1962 and not imported to Italy until 1965.
