Velvet

The series was originally titled Galerías Velvet before being shortened to Velvet, and was created by Ramón Campos and Gema R. Neira for Bambú Producciones.

The show was filmed at the Antena 3 theater within Atresmedia's facilities in San Sebastián de los Reyes (Community of Madrid), as well as at various outdoor locations in Madrid.

The production had an estimated budget of around 500,000 euros per episode.

On 19 July 2016, Antena 3 confirmed via Twitter that the series would end regardless of the ratings of its fourth season, with the final episode airing on 21 December 2016.

During the 2014 MIPTV market in Cannes, the international rights to Velvet were acquired by Italy's RAI and France's M6, with RAI also obtaining rights to produce a remake; the series drew an average 14% audience share and 4 million viewers on RAI 1.

The series was available on Netflix internationally but was removed from the platform worldwide in 2024; in 2025 some US PBS stations, such as WLIW New York and NJ PBS, began broadcasting it with English subtitles.

In February 2017, Movistar+ reached an agreement with Atresmedia to acquire the Velvet brand and produce a spin-off titled Velvet Colección, centered on the opening of a second Galerías Velvet store in Barcelona in 1967, led by actress Marta Hazas along with several returning cast members such as Adrián Lastra, Asier Etxeandia, Llorenç González, Javier Rey, Diego Martín and Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, while Paula Echevarría and José Sacristán made a brief appearance in its first episode.

In November 2024, Telemundo announced it had acquired remake rights to Velvet for a modern-day adaptation set in New York City, titled Velvet: El nuevo imperio, starring Yon González and Samantha Siqueiros, which began filming on 24 February 2025 and premiered on 19 May 2025.
