Healer was created by writer Song Ji-na, known for works such as 'Eyes of Dawn', 'Sandglass', and 'The Legend', teaming up with director Lee Jung-seob, who had previously helmed dramas like 'Hong Gil-dong, the Hero' and 'King of Baking, Kim Takgu'.

Although Healer received only modest domestic ratings in South Korea, it gained a strong fanbase overseas and helped make lead actor Ji Chang-wook known outside Korea.

Ji Chang-wook won the Popularity Award for Actor and the Best Couple Award at the 2014 KBS Drama Awards, while Park Min-young won the Excellence Award for Actress in a Mid-length Drama and shared the Best Couple Award with him.

In 2016, Park Min-young and Ji Chang-wook won the Best Couple Award at the 4th DramaFever Awards for their roles in Healer.

The story's backstory begins in the 1980s with five friends running an illegal pro-democracy pirate radio broadcast during South Korea's Fifth Republic, a plot device tying the parents' generation to the children's generation in the present-day narrative.

The official soundtrack featured a mix of Korean and international artists, including a track by the band Michael Learns to Rock ('Eternal Love') and Israeli singer Yael Meyer ('When You Hold Me Tight'), alongside Korean artists like Tei, Ben, and lead actor Ji Chang-wook himself, who performed the track 'I'll Protect You' ('지켜줄게').
