Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

The American series is an adaptation of the 2012 French series Les Revenants, internationally broadcast as The Returned, and was developed by Carlton Cuse, who also wrote the pilot episode.

Origins

The adaptation was originally developed in May 2013 by Paul Abbott and FremantleMedia under the working title 'They Came Back' before Abbott left the project in September 2013 and A&E took over development.

Reception

A&E ordered 10 episodes for the first season in April 2014, and the series premiered on March 9, 2015 but was cancelled after only one season on June 15, 2015.

Trivia

Shortly before its premiere, on March 5, 2015, Netflix acquired global rights to air the show internationally each week via streaming, following its A&E broadcast.

Filming

Although set in the fictional town of Caldwell in the Cascades Mountains of Washington State, the series was actually filmed in and around Squamish, British Columbia.

Reception

The show received generally favorable reviews, scoring 67% on Rotten Tomatoes and 67/100 on Metacritic, with critics noting it was overshadowed by its superior French source material but still retained enough atmosphere and character drama to satisfy genre fans.
