Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

The series is a continuation of the story begun in Lifetime's 2014 television film Lizzie Borden Took an Ax, and follows Lizzie Borden after her acquittal for the 1892 murders of her father and stepmother.

Origins

The show was originally titled Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles before being renamed The Lizzie Borden Chronicles.

Casting

Christina Ricci and Clea DuVall reprised their roles as Lizzie and Emma Borden from the 2014 film, while Cole Hauser joined the cast as Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo, a real historical figure.

Filming

Most, if not all, of the series was filmed in Nova Scotia, Canada, using period buildings and interiors in Halifax and other nearby communities.

Origins

The Hollywood Reporter announced in October 2014 that the series would consist of six one-hour episodes, but by January 2015 the order was increased to eight episodes.

References

New York Times critic Neil Genzlinger noted that the show mixes bits of actual history—such as the real existence of Charlie Siringo—with a lot of fiction and speculation.

Reception

The series received mixed reviews overall, but Christina Ricci's performance as Lizzie Borden was widely praised by critics such as Vanity Fair and The New York Times.

Trivia

In June 2015, Lifetime decided not to produce further episodes, ending the series after its first season.
