Dr. Ken

Dr. Ken was created, written, and co-executive produced by its lead actor Ken Jeong, who based the concept on his real-life experience as a physician before he became a stand-up comedian.

In the episode 'Ken's Big Audition', Ken auditions for a fictional version of Community, the sitcom Ken Jeong previously starred in, with several actual Community cast and crew members appearing, including Alison Brie, series creator Dan Harmon, Erik Charles Nielsen, Danielle Kaplowitz, Richard Erdman and Luke Youngblood.

Several guest stars on Dr. Ken previously appeared alongside Ken Jeong on the sitcom Community, including Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash and Jonathan Banks.

During the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour, Ken Jeong pushed back against comparisons between his show and the short-lived All-American Girl starring Margaret Cho, arguing he would have more creative control as both writer and producer of Dr. Ken.

Dr. Ken received highly negative reviews, holding just a 7% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 42 reviews and a score of 26 out of 100 on Metacritic.

Margaret Cho, who plays Ken's sister Dr. Wendi Park as a guest star, previously starred in her own short-lived sitcom All-American Girl, which was later compared to Dr. Ken by critics.
