For his audition as Nash, actor Ennis Esmer read scenes with director David Gordon Green using both his normal voice and an invented accent he called 'Indo Middle Eastern British', trying to make Green laugh.

Esmer worked with a vocal coach to refine the invented accent and kept using it throughout filming on set.

The series was primarily filmed at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, New Jersey.

Additional filming locations included Florence Park in Mamaroneck, New York, Willow Ridge Country Club in Westchester County, New York, and Paris, France.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Red Oaks holds an 81% approval rating with an average score of 7.8/10 based on 26 reviews, while Metacritic gave it 70 out of 100 based on 21 reviews.

Critics such as Newsday praised Ennis Esmer for stealing every scene he appeared in, and The New York Times compared the show's tone to the spirits of John Hughes, Harold Ramis, and the young Richard Linklater.
