Camera Café

The show's title is a wordplay on the French expression 'caméra cachée' (hidden camera), reflecting its concept of a camera hidden inside an office coffee vending machine.

Camera Café is based on a French television format that has been adapted in around thirty countries, including Italy, Portugal, Chile and Poland.

Before becoming Camera Café, the Spanish adaptation first aired from 2002 to 2004 under the title Café Express on Telemadrid and Canal Nou, but was cancelled due to low audience acceptance.

Unlike the original French format, which releases one new short daily episode of about three minutes, the Spanish version grouped several episodes (four to seven, mixing new and repeated ones) into blocks of 25 to 35 minutes to help the channel hold onto the audience before prime time.

Of the 17 characters in the cast, several were adapted or changed from the original French format for the Spanish version: some characters disappeared while others, such as the cleaning lady, were newly introduced.

A spin-off series called ¡Fibrilando! premiered in September 2009, following a medical team identical to the Camera Café staff working in a clinic on a lower floor of the same building, but it was cancelled after just one season due to low ratings.

In 2011, Telecinco announced a planned fifth season of Camera Café with a new cast and without director Luis Guridi, but it was ultimately never aired.

In April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the cast reunited via videoconference to film a special sketch paying tribute to the series and urging people to stay home.

The series won several awards, including the Antena de Oro in 2006, Union de Actores awards for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and a Fotogramas de Plata for Best TV Actor awarded to Arturo Valls in 2007.
