The drama was originally set to be scheduled as Signal, but that plan fell through, reportedly due to the pressure of genre dramas that had not performed well commercially, and it was ultimately given its own slot instead.

Because KBS wanted to boost the completion level of its pre-produced drama Descendants of the Sun and needed a pre-screening period for exclusive overseas rights sales, its broadcast was pushed to 24 February 2016, which allowed the preceding dramaJang Sa-ui Sin - Gaekju 2015 to extend by five episodes and reclaim the top ratings spot while filling the scheduling gap.

Episodes 7 and 8, originally scheduled for 30 and 31 December 2015, were postponed because those broadcast slots were taken up by the annual SBS Entertainment Awards and SBS Drama Awards ceremonies.

Yoo Seung-ho won the Excellence Award for Actor in a Genre Drama at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards and received a nomination for Top Excellence Award, Actor, at the 9th Korea Drama Awards for his performance.

Namkoong Min's portrayal of the story's antagonist earned him an Excellence Award for Actor in a Miniseries at the 5th APAN Star Awards, plus nominations for the Grand Prize at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards and Best Actor at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards.

Park Sung-woong's character, Park Dong-ho, is notably portrayed speaking Korean with a very thick Gyeongsang dialect throughout the series.

The production also received recognition at the 29th Grimae Awards, winning Best Drama for Hwang Min-sik and Kim Hyung-geun and Best Lighting for Choi Jong-geun.
