Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Casting

Actor Ren Osugi, who played detective Zenjiro Nakata, died after Season 2 aired, so the show wrote his character out as having retired for Season 3; a tribute caption to Osugi appeared at the end of Season 3's first episode.

References

The Emergency Interrogation Room timeline runs across multiple installments: Season 1, the 2015 special 'Female Friend,' Seasons 2 through 4, the 2022 New Year special, Season 5, and finally the movie.

Filming

The Season 3 streaming-exclusive version, released on Amazon Prime Video and other platforms, features unique end credits and includes newly filmed scenes not shown in the TV broadcast version of episodes 3, 4, 5, and 8.

Reception

The film's theatrical release was delayed multiple times: originally planned for 2022, it was postponed after the assassination of former PM Shinzo Abe because the plot involves an attack on a prime minister; a 2023 release was then cancelled after an incident involving lead actor Ichikawa Ennosuke, who played the prime minister.

Casting

After the 2023 postponement, actor Ichikawa Ennosuke was replaced in the prime minister role, and in June 2024 Ishimaru Kanji was announced as the new cast member taking over the part for the film's eventual 2025 release.

Reception

A planned 2023 TV special (SP3) was cancelled after actor Ayuto Nagayama, who was set to appear in it, was arrested and later convicted for violating the Cannabis Control Act, receiving a six-month suspended sentence.

Casting

Actor Hidekazu Mashima plays both Yukiko Makabe's late husband Tadashi Makabe and, separately, a criminal named Yoshihiko Minegishi in Season 2 who is described as looking exactly like Tadashi.

Origins

The 'Kintori' unit depicted in the series was originally created as a nominal 'interrogation specialist team' by department chief Masanao Gohara, but was in reality a sidelined, dead-end unit meant for personnel reduction within the police organization.
