The show's creator Marnie Dickens confirmed on 27 March 2016 that there would be no second series, as Thirteen was always intended to be a one-off miniseries.

The series was shot on location in Bristol, with the finale set in a house in the Lockleaze suburb of the city.

The finale prominently features the Purdown BT Tower in Bristol, which is also mentioned in the dialogue of the show.

The title music used for the series is 'In Your Dreams' by Dark Dark Dark, taken from their album Wild Go.

The final episode features a cover version of Royal Blood's song 'Out of the Black' performed by Billie Marten.

The series had a staggered international release, airing first on BBC Three in the UK in February 2016, then on BBC America in the US in June 2016, and later in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East in August 2016.
