Good Mythical Morning

Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal first met on September 4, 1984, the day they started first grade at Buies Creek Elementary School in North Carolina; they had to stay in during recess for writing swear words on their desks and were given coloring books featuring mythical creatures like unicorns, which inspired the name Good Mythical Morning.

At age fourteen, the duo wrote a screenplay called Gutless Wonders and began filming it, but only shot a couple of scenes and never finished it; the screenplay was later read aloud across multiple episodes of Good Mythical Morning.

As teenagers, McLaughlin and Neal were both members of a Christian punk rock band called 'The Wax Paper Dogz'.

Before becoming full-time entertainers, McLaughlin and Neal both studied engineering at North Carolina State University and briefly worked as engineers (McLaughlin at Black & Veatch, Neal at IBM) before quitting to focus on comedy videos for the Christian organization Cru, and eventually transitioning to YouTube full-time without ministry ties.

The precursor to Good Mythical Morning was a 2011 show called 'Good Morning Chia Lincoln,' filmed with an Abraham Lincoln-shaped Chia Pet as centerpiece; the series ended after half the Chia Pet died.

Rhett & Link appeared in three Epic Rap Battles of History episodes, playing the Wright Brothers against the Mario Brothers, Renaissance artists (da Vinci and Donatello) against the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Lewis and Clark against Bill and Ted.

A commercial they made for taxidermist Chuck Testa went viral after airing on their show Commercial Kings, spawning the 'Nope! Chuck Testa' internet meme and topping 18 million views; it was included in Time's Top 10 Memes of 2011.

In October 2025, Rhett McLaughlin revealed on their podcast Ear Biscuits that he had undergone a heart ablation procedure for atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation, which prompted him to launch a solo YouTube channel and led the duo to announce an indefinite hiatus of the Ear Biscuits podcast at the end of the year.
