Bizaardvark was created by Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman, who were discovered through the Disney Channel Storytellers program and went on to serve as the series' co-executive producers.

Marc Warren, who had previously supervised the Disney Channel Storytellers program, served as executive producer on the pilot episode.

On July 22, 2017, it was announced that Jake Paul would be leaving both Bizaardvark and Disney Channel after appearing as Dirk Mann for the first two seasons.

A previously unannounced third season was revealed by Disney Channel on April 19, 2018, and shortly after, on May 30, 2018, Maxwell Simkins and Elie Samouhi were announced as new cast members playing tween bloggers Zane and Rodney.

The show's title is a portmanteau of the words 'bizarre' and 'aardvark,' matching the name of the fictional Vuuugle channel run by the main characters.

Owen Gleiberman of Variety praised the series as an innovative, quirky and surreal satirical sitcom, highlighting how Madison Hu and Olivia Rodrigo skillfully captured precociousness with irony.
