Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Filming

The Mick is filmed as a single-camera sitcom entirely in California, and an actual Los Angeles mansion is used as the Pemberton family estate.

Casting

The role of Jimmy Shepherd was originally played by Nat Faxon in the show's pilot, but it was known in advance that Faxon's other commitments would prevent him from continuing if the series was picked up.

Casting

Scott MacArthur, who had already been hired as a writer on the series, was later given the role of Jimmy Shepherd, prompting Fox to re-shoot the pilot before the show's debut.

Casting

Susan Park was originally cast as Liz but was dropped as a series regular early in the first season and instead continued as a recurring character.

Reception

In December 2017, the show's creators falsely announced that Scott MacArthur had left the cast as a publicity stunt to gauge fan reaction, before revealing weeks later that he was staying on.

Reception

Creators Dave and John Chernin explained the fake departure was meant to test fan attachment to the Jimmy character, since some viewers had disliked him in season one, and they wanted to see how upset fans would get at the idea of losing him.

Reception

The second season poster for The Mick was nominated for Best Comedy Poster for a TV Show / TV Series at the 2018 Golden Trailer Awards.

Reception

On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season holds a 58% approval rating based on 26 reviews, while Metacritic gave it a weighted average score of 50 out of 100, indicating mixed reviews.
