Origins

The series is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Philipp Meyer, who co-created and developed the show alongside Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman.

Casting

Sam Neill was originally cast to play the lead role of Eli McCullough but left the production for personal reasons; Pierce Brosnan was cast as his replacement.
