Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

This 2016 Amazon series is the second live-action adaptation of Ben Edlund's comic book character, following a previous version cancelled by Fox in 2001, with Edlund himself involved in creating both series.

Origins

The show launched with a single pilot episode in August 2016 before Amazon later ordered a full season, resulting in the first season being split into two batches of six episodes released nearly six months apart in 2017 and 2018.

Casting

Jackie Earle Haley was cast as the villain The Terror in April 2016, joining the already-announced leads Peter Serafinowicz as The Tick and Griffin Newman as Arthur.

Reception

The series held a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 63 reviews and a 'generally favorable' Metacritic score of 72 out of 100 from 23 critics.

Reception

Despite positive critical reception and a notable fan and crew campaign after cancellation, Amazon did not renew the show for a third season, and creator Ben Edlund was unable to find another network or streaming service to pick it up.

Reception

The Tick received a 2018 Saturn Award nomination for Best New Media Superhero Series and an Emmy nomination for its Main Title theme music composed by Chris Bacon.
