"Pucca" is a TV series based on a Flash animation series published by Vooz Character Systems. It follows the trails and exploits of a South Korean girl named Pucca who is insanely in love with a prideful ninja named Garu. Meanwhile, Garu and Pucca help their town of Sooga Village out when evil ninjas attack, as well as diffuse a lot of the absurd situations that frequently plague the town. This show could best be described as a cleaned-up version of South Park meets Looney Tunes meets Naruto. There is some very subtly hidden adult humor; but most of the adult jokes would not go noticed by small children, who are the primary audience.

Pucca is based on a series of animated shorts created by the South Korean company VOOZ Character System, originally titled Jjajangsonyeo Ppukka in Korean.

A third season, titled Pucca: Love Recipe in English, was announced in October 2018 by Planeta Junior and later released internationally on Netflix on 31 December 2019, though it was removed from the platform on 29 June 2023.

Casting

In the third season's trailer, the rival restaurant later called Dong King Restaurant was originally going to be named BonaSera.

References

Ring Ring, who becomes a major character and rival in the show including in the third season, first appeared previously in the Jetix series before being expanded into Dong King's daughter.

Reception

At the 2006 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the Pucca episode 'A Force of Won' was nominated for two awards including the Prix Jeunesse in the Animation category.

Reception

Pucca won Leo Awards in 2006 for best screenwriting and best overall in an animation program.

Trivia

A live musical stage show based on Pucca was held in Lima, Peru on 8 October 2009, chosen because the series was one of the most beloved programs on Jetix's Latin American channel, and the show was repeated eight times between 8 and 11 October 2009.
