Un paso adelante

The pop group UPA Dance, originally created for the needs of the series' screenplay, actually gave concerts and released albums in real life.

During dubbing for French-language broadcast, the series was entirely re-edited: the original 80-minute episodes were recut into 130 episodes of 50 minutes, with many scenes cut and the order of certain scenes changed.

Because of this re-editing, the end of season 4 and the beginning of season 5 end up combined in a single episode in the French version.

The season 1 opening theme broadcast in French-speaking countries is actually the one from season 2, which explains the presence of actors Dafne Fernández and Raúl Peña, absent from the first season, and the absence of Asier Etxeandia who was nonetheless credited in the original opening theme.

The series was filmed mainly in Madrid and its surroundings, but certain episodes were filmed on location: in Lastres for an episode of season 1, in London for two episodes of season 2, and in Barcelona for an episode of season 5.

For the 15th anniversary of the series in Spain, several actors reunited for television programs in 2016 and 2017, notably Beatriz Luengo, Mónica Cruz, Pablo Puyol and Miguel Ángel Muñoz brought together live on El Hormiguero on November 30, 2016.

When announcing the UPA Next spin-off in 2021, several former actors like Pablo Puyol publicly expressed their regrets about not participating in the project, and almost all of the original teaching staff was absent, with the exception of Lola Herrera and Natalia Millán who briefly reprised their roles.

Producer Javier Póns explained that, with such a large number of characters in the original series, they had to find the right chemistry for UPA Next and that it was not possible to rely on all the original actors.
