Ice was created by Robert Munic and was originally ordered in 2014, but that initial order was dropped for creative reasons before the series was eventually greenlit.

The show was ultimately ordered straight-to-series with a 10-episode order on August 2, 2016, and premiered on Audience Network on November 16, 2016.

The series was renewed for a second season on June 16, 2017, but its cancellation was confirmed on July 30, 2018, via the show's official Facebook page.

The role of Willow Green was recast between seasons, played by Chloe East in season one and Jocelyn Hudon in season two.

Several established actors joined the cast, including Donald Sutherland as Pieter Van De Bruin and Ray Winstone as Cam Rose, though Sutherland's character only appeared in season one.

The first season of Ice was released on DVD by Entertainment One in July 2017.
