Still Star-Crossed

Still Star-Crossed is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Melinda Taub, which serves as a sequel to William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

The series was announced on October 22, 2015, developed by Grey's Anatomy and Scandal writer Heather Mitchell, and produced by Shonda Rhimes's Shondaland alongside ABC Studios and Michael R. Goldstein's The MrG Production Company.

The pilot episode was directed by Michael Offer, who had previously directed the pilot for Shondaland's How to Get Away with Murder.

Filming for the pilot took place in Salamanca, in the Castile and León region of northwestern Spain, from April 18 to May 2, 2016, as well as in Plasencia and Cáceres in the Extremadura region of western Spain.

British actress Lashana Lynch was cast as the series' lead character, Rosaline Capulet, with her role announced alongside Zuleikha Robinson, Torrance Coombs, Wade Briggs and Ebonée Noel on March 2, 2016.

Medalion Rahimi, who had previously appeared in Shondaland's The Catch, joined the pilot cast as Princess Isabella in March 2016.

British actor Lucien Laviscount and Danish actress Clara Rugaard were cast in guest-starring roles as Romeo and Juliet, characters already deceased at the start of the story.

The series received mixed reviews, holding a 52% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 45/100 on Metacritic, and was cancelled by ABC after just one season in June 2017.
