Ransom

Ransom is an international co-production between Canada's Global, France's TF1, the United States' CBS, and Germany's RTL, with RTL airing it on its sister network VOX.

The series is inspired by the real-life negotiators Laurent Combalbert and Marwan Mery.

CBS ordered the show straight-to-series with 13 episodes on June 6, 2016, skipping the traditional pilot process.

Ransom was the first newly debuted U.S. scripted series on CBS's Saturday night schedule since The District was cancelled in 2004.

After CBS cancelled the show in the US and RTL Group left the project due to low German ratings, Global and TF1 stepped in to fund and order a second season without their former partners.

The first season was filmed in Toronto, Canada, and Nice, France, with Toronto standing in for North American locations; eight episodes were shot in Toronto and five in Nice.

The second season began shooting in Toronto and Budapest, Hungary in November 2017, while the third season was filmed entirely in Budapest.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season holds a 47% approval rating from 15 critics, with the site's consensus describing it as a typical network procedural lacking originality or excitement.
