Superior Donuts

The series is based on the play of the same name by Tracy Letts. The pilot was originally developed for the 2015–16 television season but was not picked up and was put into redevelopment by CBS before a new pilot was ordered for the 2016–17 midseason.

Jermaine Fowler was cast as Franco Wicks in February 2016, followed by Judd Hirsch as Arthur in August 2016 and Katey Sagal for the female lead role in September 2016.

Anna Baryshnikov was announced as Maya in September 2016 and upgraded to a series regular the following month, but she departed after season one and was replaced by Diane Guerrero, who joined as new character Sofia in August 2017.

CBS renewed the series for a second season in March 2017, and in November 2017 ordered eight additional episodes, bringing season two's total to 21 episodes for a series total of 34 episodes.

CBS cancelled Superior Donuts in May 2018 after two seasons, alongside other sitcoms like Kevin Can Wait, 9JKL, Living Biblically, and Me, Myself & I, due to declining ratings and the network's desire for an ownership stake in the show.

Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 62% approval rating based on 21 reviews, with critics praising the talented cast but criticizing the laugh track and stale jokes, while Metacritic scored it 56 out of 100 indicating mixed reviews.
