Humans have created many stories. Joy, sadness, anger, deep emotion. Stories shake our emotions, and fascinate us. However, these are only the thoughts of bystanders. But what if the characters in the story have "intentions"? To them, are we god-like existences for bringing their story into the world? Our world is changed. Mete out punishment upon the realm of the gods. In Re:CREATORS, everyone becomes a Creator.

Trivia & behind the scenes

/
Origins

Re:Creators was created and written by Rei Hiroe, the manga artist known for creating Black Lagoon, who also provided the original character designs, while Ei Aoki directed the series.

Origins

Hiroe's original story for the anime was also published as a text serialization on Shogakukan's Sunday Webry website under the title Re:Creators Naked.

Casting

Character designer Ryuichi Makino noted that Rui Kanoya was modeled on Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion, combining traits from various robot anime protagonists; early designs even included a pilot helmet for him that was later dropped.

Casting

For the villain Altair, the design was fixed on a military uniform from the start; the character was initially given an old German-style helmet before settling on a Russian cavalry hat.

Casting

Magane Chikujōin's design was altered during development because her hairstyle initially resembled Shenhua from the manga Black Lagoon, also created by Rei Hiroe, so alternative hairstyles were considered.

Casting

Yūya Mirokuji's character design originally featured a camouflage jacket and a neck tattoo in the original character sheets, but these were cut in the anime adaptation in favor of giving him a hunched posture.

Music

The series' music was composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, and the villain Altair's ending theme for episode 13, 'World Étude,' was performed in-universe by her own voice actress Aki Toyosaki under the character's name.

Filming

The production deliberately did not use the full runtime of its two-cour, 22-episode format for straightforward story episodes; instead, the leftover time was filled with three special programs featuring cast interviews and segments with the characters.

References

The character Hangaku, a female armored warrior spirit summoned by Mirokuji, is based on the historical female warrior Hangaku Gozen.

Trivia

An in-universe memorial event called 'Kirameki Mamika Farewell Gathering' was actually held for fans at the Akiba CO Gallery on June 10-11, 2017, blurring the line between the fictional character's story and real-world promotion.
