Boomtown

Boomtown's title is a nickname for its setting, Los Angeles, California, and the show depicted each criminal investigation from multiple points of view including police, lawyers, paramedics, reporters, victims, witnesses, and criminals.

After disappointing ratings in its first season, the series was retooled by reducing its reliance on non-linear storytelling, writing out some characters and introducing new ones.

Despite low viewership that eventually led to its cancellation, Boomtown received several award nominations, including Emmy Awards, Golden Satellite Awards, and Television Critics Association Awards.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season holds a 96% approval rating with an average score of 10/10 based on 26 reviews, while Metacritic gave it a score of 89 out of 100 based on 31 reviews, indicating 'universal acclaim'.

Although season one sold well on DVD and fans requested it, season two was never released on DVD in the USA or UK; it was only made available as part of a French box set, 'Boomtown Complet', which included a short interview with French critic Alain Carraze.

In February 2006, Viacom purchased DreamWorks' live-action film and television assets for $1.6 billion, giving it partial ownership of Boomtown since the show's rights were originally split between NBC Studios and DreamWorks Television.

As of 2025, Boomtown remains unavailable on major streaming platforms like Peacock, Pluto TV, or Paramount+; it had briefly been available on Amazon Prime Video before being removed in January 2021.
