At the 7th Canadian Screen Awards in 2019, The Indian Detective won the Golden Screen Award for being the highest-rated Canadian television program of 2018.

The fourth episode of the series ends on a cliffhanger that hints at a possible second season, but as of September 2019 no second season had been officially confirmed despite star Russell Peters mentioning it was in development.

In January 2020, Russell Peters partnered with Amazon Prime for the comedy special 'Russell Peters: Deported,' which may have further delayed the production of a potential second season of The Indian Detective.
