In the Dark

The series is an adaptation of two Mark Billingham novels, Time of Death and In The Dark, with the four-part structure split into two two-part stories.

The screenplay was written by Danny Brocklehurst, and production and global distribution were handled by BBC Studios.

Filming for the series took place beginning in April 2016, with locations in Manchester and Marsden.

The Daily Telegraph's Michael Hogan gave the first episode three stars out of five, describing it as taut and tensely atmospheric with an intriguing premise.

The Guardian's Sam Wollaston praised the first episode as pacy, thoughtful and skilfully constructed, despite noting it wasn't free of genre tropes.
