The series was written by Ha Myung-hee and is based on her own 2014 novel titled 'Good Soup Never Picks up the Phone'.

Park Bo-gum and Song Hye-kyo were both offered the leading roles in March 2017, but they declined.

Lead actors Seo Hyun-jin and Yang Se-jong had previously worked together on the SBS series Dr. Romantic (2016).

The first script reading with the cast was held on July 30, 2017 at the SBS building in Ilsan, and filming began on August 9 in Gangnam, Seoul.

Yang Se-jong won the Best New Actor award at the 2017 SBS Drama Awards for his role in the series.

On October 17, 2017, the show was preempted due to a broadcast of the 2017 KBO League playoff game between the NC Dinos and Doosan Bears, and on November 21, 2017, four episodes (37 to 40) aired consecutively starting at 10 PM.
