My Mister received exceptional critical recognition for its screenplay writing: the series won the Dramatic Screenplay Award at the 31st Korean Broadcasting Writers Awards, becoming the first work broadcast on a cable channel to receive this award in the drama category.

The series also won the Best Drama Award at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards.

My Mister is co-produced by Studio Dragon (a CJ E&M subsidiary) and Green Snake Media; it is thus the fifth series awarded at the Korean Broadcasting Writers Awards to have been produced externally by a network subsidiary, after Sandglass, Eun-sil-i, Deok-yi and A Wife's Credentials.

The role of the mother of the three brothers, Byun Yo-soon, was initially to be entrusted to Na Moon-hee, but she had to decline because the filming of the film Miss Baek (감쪽같은 그녀) was moved up; the role ultimately went to Go Doo-shim.

The role of Dong-hoon's eldest brother, Park Sang-hoon, was originally to be assigned to Oh Dal-su, but he was removed from the project due to accusations of sexual assault against him; it was ultimately Park Ho-san who got the role.

The singer IU (real name Lee Ji-eun) plays the main female role, Lee Ji-an.

The My Mister soundtrack includes eight parts released between March and May 2018, performed by various artists such as Lee Hee-moon, Sondia, Jung Seung-hwan, Kwak Jin-eon and Ji-sun, whose emblematic title is 'Bogtong-ui Haru' (보통의 하루).
