The miniseries was adapted for television in Italy on Rai 2 and in Germany on Sat.1, showing its international reach beyond the original French broadcast.

Actors Francis Huster, Jacques Spiesser, Anne Jacquemin and Valéria Cavalli had already worked together four years earlier in the TF1 series Le Grand Patron, broadcast in 2000.

Filming took place between June and October 2003.

In 1994, cast members Claire Keim, Michel Duchaussoy and Jean-Pierre Bouvier had all previously appeared together in the series Les Yeux d'Hélène.

The success of the show led to a sequel, Le Maître du Zodiaque, which aired in 2006, and a further new installment was announced for 2026.
