Origins

The series is a loose adaptation of the Hellblazer graphic novel All His Engines by Mike Carey and Leonardo Manco.

It is set in the DC Animated Movie Universe and connects to the 2017 animated film Justice League Dark, rather than being a continuation of the live-action Constantine series, despite early statements suggesting otherwise.

Matt Ryan reprised his role as John Constantine from the live-action series, having previously made a guest appearance as the character in Arrow's fourth season.

The first five episodes premiered at WonderCon before being released on CW Seed on March 24, 2018, and seven more episodes were later confirmed by writer J. M. DeMatteis.

Filming

A feature-length version with 20 minutes of extra footage was released on Blu-ray and digital on October 9, following a special screening at New York Comic Con, similar to the approach used for Vixen: The Movie.

Reception

The series made its broadcast debut on The CW on October 15 under the title Constantine: The Legend Continues, hosted by Matt Ryan.
