Shogo Kai is a lawyer at one of the big 4 law firms in Japan. He is good at his job, but he is arrogant. Shogo Kai only thinks about winning and he thinks the only way to satisfy his clients is to win. He is getting close to becoming a senior partner at the law firm. Shogo Kai's boss worries about his focus on winning above all else. As a condition of his promotion at the law firm, his boss asks him to hire a young lawyer as an associate. Shogo Kai interviews prospective young lawyers and meets Daiki Suzuki. Daiki Suzuki has high intelligence and his memory ability is amazing.

Origins

This Japanese drama is a remake of the American television series Suits, created by Aaron Korsh, which airs on the USA Network.

Casting

Lead actor Yuji Oda returned to the '9pm Monday' (Getsuku) drama slot for the first time since 'Taiyo to Umi no Kyoshitsu' in 2008 to play the sharp lawyer Shogo Kai, based on Harvey Specter.

Honami Suzuki, who plays Kai's boss Chika Yukimura, returned to a Getsuku drama for the first time in 24 years, marking her first on-screen reunion with Yuji Oda since the 1991 drama 'Tokyo Love Story', about 27 years and 9 months later.

Actress Megumi Kawase, who plays a guest character in episode 2, previously co-starred with lead actor Yuji Oda five years earlier in the 2013 drama 'Oh, My Dad!!'.

Reception

Season 1 of the series holds the record for the most episodes ever broadcast in a single season within the Getsuku ('Monday 9pm') timeslot.

Filming

Production of Season 2 was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic: broadcasting was postponed after episode 2, filming resumed on June 6, 2020, and broadcasts resumed on July 27, 2020, with a special combined re-airing of episodes 1 and 2 on July 20 ahead of the restart.

Music

The theme song for both seasons is 'WOLF' by the rock band B'z, with a ballad version of the song used as an insert song in Season 1.
