Kyousougiga

Kyousougiga marks the first collaboration between Banpresto and Toei Animation, under the direction of director Rie Matsumoto, which marked her debut as a film director after having directed the Heartcatch Precure! Hana no Miyako de Fashion Show... Desu ka!? film.

The project was first announced on August 27, 2011 with a presentation of characters and part of the voice cast, before the broadcast of a first promotional video in December 2011.

The work was released in several waves: a first installment of one episode broadcast in December 2011, a second installment of five episodes between August and December 2012, accumulating over one million views, then a television series of 13 episodes broadcast between October and December 2013.

Out of the 13 episodes of the television series, three are notable: episode 0 is a compilation of the 2011 promotional video, episode 5.5 is a live-action segment where the voice actors present the real locations in Kyoto that inspired the series, and episode 10.5 is a summary compiling the highlights.

A documentary web series titled Kyousougiga e no Michi ("The Road to Kyousougiga") followed young voice actress Akari Harashima in her preparation to obtain a role in the series; it was broadcast in four episodes on the official website.

The name of the mirror city 'Kyōto' (鏡都) is a visual pun with the real city of Kyoto (京都): it was the character Kurama who would have suggested modifying the kanji to create this name.

A manga adaptation retelling the story of the first installment was serialized in Dengeki Maoh magazine starting from February 2012, followed by a spin-off of the second installment and then a new series accompanying the broadcast of the television anime at the end of 2013.

A web radio show titled "Kyousougiga: Kyousougiga to Myoue no Ochanoma Tsūshin" was broadcast starting from October 2, 2013 with voice actors Rie Kugimiya (Koto) and Kenichi Suzumura (Myōe).
