This 2019 series is the third television adaptation of H. G. Wells' 1898 novel The War of the Worlds, reimagining the story in contemporary Britain and France rather than its original Victorian setting.

Greg Kinnear was originally set to star in the series, but he was no longer listed in the starring cast when Deadline Hollywood revealed the lineup in January 2019, meaning he was ultimately dropped from the production.

The first season was filmed across the United Kingdom, France and Belgium, with shooting taking place in Bristol in March 2019 as well as in Cardiff, Newport and London.

The second season was shot over several months, beginning filming on July 13, 2020 and wrapping on October 22, 2020.

Each season was directed by a different pair of directors: Gilles Coulier and Richard Clark split the eight episodes of season one, Richard Clark and Ben A. Williams directed season two, and Indra Siera and Jonas Alexander Arnby directed season three.

The Nick Cave song "Into My Arms" is prominently featured in the series.

The series received mixed-to-positive reviews, with The Times awarding the first season four out of five stars, while The AV Club called it "compelling if derivative" and The New York Times described it as a "smart, atmospheric genre series".

The show was released in full on MyCanal in France on the same day it began its weekly broadcast, a pattern repeated for both the first and second seasons, before rolling out internationally on Fox and Epix across more than 50 countries.
