Taurus Entertainment Company first began exploring a television adaptation of Creepshow as far back as February 1997, more than two decades before the series was finally produced.

As with the original 1982 film, the Creep is portrayed as a full-bodied puppet delivering silent gags in the cold openings, though some episodes used an animated version of the character instead.

A segment based on Stephen King's short story 'Survivor Type' was originally announced for the pilot episode, but it was ultimately dropped from season one and instead used for the animated Halloween special that aired in 2020.

An episode starring Marilyn Manson was pulled from air in February 2021 following multiple abuse allegations against him, and an episode starring Molly Ringwald aired in its place.

Unlike the original films, which each had a single director, the TV series uses multiple directors per season, including Tom Savini and John Harrison, who had both worked on the original Creepshow features.

Principal photography for the series began in February 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia, while season two's filming, originally set to start in March 2020, was delayed until September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; season four later moved production to Toronto.

Creepshow was adapted into a walkthrough maze at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2019, combining segments from the original 1982 film ('Father's Day', 'The Crate', 'They're Creeping Up on You') with new TV segments ('Gray Matter' and 'Bad Wolf Down').

The series draws several of its stories from published short fiction by well-known horror authors, including Stephen King's 'Gray Matter', Joe Hill's 'By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain' and 'Mums', and Josh Malerman's 'The House of the Head'.
