The series is Netflix's fourth original Brazilian production, following 3%, O Mecanismo and Samantha!, announced on November 6, 2017 following the success of 3%.

Origins

The original title Coisa Mais Linda is inspired by a verse from the song Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema), composed by Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Morais.

Internationally, from the second season onwards, the series changed its title to Girls from Ipanema, as Netflix found that the literal translation of the Portuguese title did not resonate with foreign audiences, the English version of the song (The Girl from Ipanema) not containing this expression.

Filming

The main cast was announced on June 29, 2018 and filming of the first season took place from early July to October 2018, entirely in Brazil.

Reception

Even before the official announcement of renewal for a second season on May 13, the main actors had already mentioned this new season on their Instagram accounts.
