The Australian Lego Masters is an adaptation of the original British series of the same name, in which teams compete to build the best Lego project.

Auditions for the first season opened in June 2018 before any network had actually commissioned the show, with filming later taking place between October and December that year.

Hamish Blake was announced as host at Nine's Upfronts in October 2018, at the same event where the series was officially confirmed.

The show, produced by Endemol Shine, won a Realscreen award for Best Competition in 2020, beating game shows like Celebrity Family Feud, Hollywood Game Night and Deal or No Deal.

For its fourth season, production moved from Melbourne to Sydney due to Covid border restrictions, with filming taking place at Fox Studios Sydney (now Disney Studios Australia).

The third season's filming was confirmed to begin on 5 October 2020 at the Melbourne Showgrounds, with auditions opened in May 2020 asking for applicants aged 15 and above.

The fifth season, titled Lego Masters: Grand Masters, was an All-Stars edition featuring returning contestants from each of the previous seasons.

The sixth season, Lego Masters Australia vs The World, pitted four new Australian teams against four teams who had previously competed in their home countries, and was won by the American team Krystle & Michelle.

Two Christmas specials were produced, airing in two parts in November 2021 and November 2022, each pairing celebrities such as Scott Cam, Sophie Monk, Poh Ling Yeow and Emma Watkins with contestants from past seasons for Christmas-themed builds.
