This work was announced by Aniplex on July 29, 2018, and is an anime adaptation based on the "Seventh Singularity: Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia" quest from the smartphone RPG Fate/Grand Order.

Aniplex conducted a survey with fans in January 2018 asking about their favorite quests and desired future developments. The results led to the production of this work, with the "Babylonia" quest and "TV anime adaptation" each ranking first.

This work was released as a "Fate Series 15th Anniversary Commemorative Work."

Prior to the broadcast, a special episode titled "Episode 0 Initium Iter" corresponding to Episode 0 was produced and received a surprise screening at "Fate/Grand Order Fes 2019" on August 3, 2019, and was then distributed within the game app from the following day until August 11.

Lead character designer Takashi Takeuchi of TYPE-MOON served in that role, with character designs handled by Tomoaki Takase.

Voice actors Kenji Akahane and Mika Tanaka were appointed as Babylonia promotional ambassadors, alternately explaining each episode in a serialized feature in "WHAT's IN? tokyo" magazine, with only the final episode (Episode 21) having explanations written by both.

After the final episode aired, a sequel theatrical anime based on the Part 1 final scenario "Final Singularity: Grand Order Soloman" was announced, and the Blu-ray & DVD limited production edition included a compilation of this work.

The opening theme "Phantom Joke" was sung and arranged by UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, with lyrics and composition by Tomoya Tabuchi. The ending theme was Eir Aoi's "Hoshi ga Furu Yume" for the first cour and milet's "Prover" for the second cour, with milet's "Tell me" used in Episode 16.
